TelcoBridges to Enhance Network Scaling with Intelligent Edge Strategy

FreeSBC Tested via Ciena’s Service Virtualization Platforms and Available as a Virtual Network Function (VNF)

Los Angeles, CA – MEF18 Conference: October 30, 2018 – TelcoBridges, the developer of FreeSBC, today announced that the company has successfully validated FreeSBC – using Ciena‘s 3906mvi and 3926m Service Virtualization Platforms – as a Virtual Network Function (VNF) for deployment at the edge of carrier voice and data networks.

Network intrusion continues to be a risk for service providers, with nefarious players attempting to map out and exploit holes in network security systems with registration floods, DOS, and DDOS attacks. Meanwhile, network bandwidth and SIP Trunking services continue to grow in popularity and usage, challenging service providers in managing interoperability and the increased traffic generated by large-volume customers. By deploying FreeSBC software at the edge of the network, carriers can prevent intrusion attempts before they get into the core of their network, solve interoperability challenges and better manage their customer’s traffic.

As part of its Intelligent Edge Strategy, TelcoBridges now offers FreeSBC, a cost-effective commercial Session Border Controller (SBC) as a VNF for deployment, which was tested using Ciena’s 3906mvi and 3926m Service Virtualization Platforms and D-NFVI software suite. Based on the ETSI Nework Function Virtualization framework, the Intelligent Edge Strategy puts FreeSBC within the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) with other VNFs, creating a service chain of network functions from a wide range of vendors.

“The successful validation of FreeSBC using our Service Virtualization Platforms will open new doors for innovative service providers, including enhanced network services to help drive new revenue streams and network transformation,” said Brian Lavallée, Senior Director of Portfolio Marketing, Ciena. “With FreeSBC recently validated and deployed as a VNF at the edge of the network, carriers will be able to deploy low-cost Session Border Controller functions, protecting their networks from attack at the point of demarcation,” said TelcoBridges’ Senior Director of Product Marketing Alan Percy. “Other benefits allow for dynamic network traffic management, expand interoperability and enable new services with greater network scaling.”

TelcoBridges’ FreeSBC Selected by Marcatel to Improve Contact Center Services

Ease of installation, Intelligent Call Traffic Management and Cost Effectiveness make FreeSBC Ideal for Contact Center SIP Trunking Services

Montreal, Canada: July 18, 2018 – TelcoBridges, the leading designer and manufacturer of carrier-grade Tmedia VoIP gateways and the FreeSBC virtual session border controller, today announced that Marcatel is deploying TelcoBridges’ FreeSBC technology to assist call centers that utilize Marcatel’s SIP Trunking services.

Marcatel S.A. de C.V. is a Mexican telecommunications company that provides customized products and services to national and international carriers. Marcatel’s large optical fiber network interconnects Mexico, USA, Canada, South America, Europe and Asia.

Some of the outbound contact centers that Marcatel serves pose new challenges for its network. Call center customers that use high-speed dialers could potentially overwhelm Marcatel’s core switches and degrade services across its entire customer base – unless each customer’s aggregate call attempt traffic can be managed on the edge of the network at each customer’s premise.

To address this issue, Marcatel deployed TelcoBridges’ FreeSBC software at SIP Trunking customer sites, on COTS servers and as a Virtualized Network Function (VNF) to intelligently manage voice traffic according to call-per-second limits specified by each customer’s SLA. TelcoBridges’ proprietary intelligent algorithms detect and gracefully manage overages, queuing and delaying call attempts that exceed contractual limits. FreeSBC’s management web portal enables Marcatel technicians to monitor and remotely adjust call-rate limits on a per-customer basis. The FreeSBC web portal simplifies configuration changes and eliminates the need for difficult command-line interaction typically found in competing SBCs.

In addition to call rate limiting, Marcatel also utilized FreeSBC to provide caller-ID and ANI substitution for their SIP Trunking customers, presenting the called party with a branded message that improves call completion rates.

“We required a solution that was easy to install, affordable, available immediately and also fully supported,” said Sergio R. López, Engineering Manager at Marcatel. “TelcoBridges’ FreeSBC meets all our needs: it provides the functionality we need, and the ISO installation process has allowed our technicians to quickly install and activate SIP-Trunking services. We’ve also added full support and TelcoBridges TB-Analytics – which have immediately provided ROI, via the call recording and tracing features, which we’ve used to diagnose and fix some network issues for our customers.”

“Marcatel’s deployments illustrate the three best things about the FreeSBC: it’s affordable, it can be deployed immediately, and it provides carrier grade functionality,” said TelcoBridges’ Senior Director of Product Marketing Alan Percy.

GlobalData Spotlights TelcoBridges’ FreeSBC Technology and Business Model in Market Disruptor Report

Industry Analyst GlobalData Highlights TelcoBridges’ FreeSBC Technology, Addressing the Needs of Agile Telecom Service Providers

Montreal, Canada: May 22, 2018 – TelcoBridges, the leading designer and manufacturer of carrier-grade Tmedia VoIP gateways and the FreeSBC virtual session border controller, today announced that Telecommunications market research firm GlobalData has profiled TelcoBridges’ FreeSBC technology and business model in its recent Market Disruptor Report.

In the report, GlobalData cites how the FreeSBC provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 Service Providers with an ideal opportunity to implement a long-desired shift in their spending models. The report details how the FreeSBC addresses a gap in the SBC marketplace, by providing agile service providers with a CAPEX-free alternative to diversify their supplier base and more nimbly adopt best-of-breed SBC solutions.

The report illustrates the platform-agnostic nature of the FreeSBC, which runs on any combination of VMware, OpenStack, Amazon/AWS and bare metal servers. It also discusses how the FreeSBC can scale both up and down, supporting anywhere from 100 to 60,000 sessions per server, with support for 1,100 completed sessions per second (CSPS) and up to 6,000 session attempts per second (SAPS).

“There is a significant market opportunity for SBC applications that legacy SBC providers find difficult to support, and many of these opportunities remain un-addressed – because of the CAPEX shock factor that comes with switching to a new supplier,” said GlobalData’s John Byrne. “TelcoBridges is an established and well-respected player in the telecom equipment and software market, and its new FreeSBC offering is well positioned to address these market opportunities.”

GlobalData’s report spells out how the ability to adopt a virtual SBC with no (or extremely low) upfront costs enables operators to take a stepwise approach to full-fledged virtual SBC adoption. Service Providers can earmark the FreeSBC for specific niche applications, while existing physical SBCs can remain on the job for other requirements. The report cites TelcoBridges’ plans to add incremental functionality into the FreeSBC, to enable a seamless migration for customers.

The FreeSBC is just one component of TelcoBridges’ portfolio of carrier-grade solutions. A wide array of optional paid services and extensions are available, including 24/7 support, analytics for troubleshooting, fraud detection, call removal and more. Support for transcoding is made possible via optional IP-based DSP hardware resources, which are sold in various capacities.

Earlier this month, TelcoBridges announced that more than 3 million FreeSBC session licenses have been downloaded from customers in 59 countries around the globe. “This overwhelming response shows how strong the demand is for a scalable, reliable and fully featured SBC that can be deployed without upfront costs,” said TelcoBridges’ Senior Director of Product Marketing Alan Percy.

TelcoBridges and Pulse Supply Help Natural G.C. Restore and Upgrade Puerto Rico’s Telecom Infrastructure

TelcoBridges’ Media Gateways Provide the SS7 Connections needed to Connect the Island’s TDM Infrastructure to VoIP Networks

Montreal, Canada: December 21, 2017 – TelcoBridges, the leading designer and manufacturer of carrier-grade Tmedia VoIP gateways, today announced that it has worked with leading Puerto Rican Telecom Service Provider Natural G.C. and global distributor Pulse Supply to successfully restore and upgrade Puerto Rico’s telecom infrastructure following the destruction created by Hurricane Maria.

Prior to the hurricane, much of Puerto Rico’s telecom infrastructure featured legacy landlines connected to different service provider networks. The hurricane’s high winds destroyed most of the above-ground landline infrastructure, making it difficult for residents and businesses to communicate locally and internationally.

Natural G.C. is a leading service provider of voice, data, video and technical support services in Puerto Rico. They worked with Pulse Supply to deploy a TelcoBrides media gateway in their network. The media gateway deployed allowed Natural G.C. to interconnect with the island’s incumbent carrier using the SS7 protocol.

In the immediate aftermath of the hurricane, Natural G.C. leveraged solar power to get all of its systems quickly back on line. And with the help of Pulse Supply and TelcoBridges, the company was able to restore phone service for thousands of Puerto Ricans.

“Natural G.C. is very focused on providing the best telecommunications services for Puerto Ricans and we are proud to help make this possible,” said Gary Glasgall, Regional Director for Pulse Supply.

“The solution provided by Pulse Supply using TelcoBridges’ TMG800 addressed the SS7 interconnection issues that we faced prior to the hurricane,” said Natural G.C.’s Crucito Marrero. “The connection came up on the first day and it has been up ever since.
